Last month, Forbes came out with 15 Small Business Trends To Watch Through The Rest Of 2022. One of those trends is sharing short-form video (SFV). CEOWorld.biz also says that Short-Form Video Content Is Key to 2022 Marketing Strategies.

According to Bill Sargent, Certified Professional Photographer and owner of Milwaukee Headshots, short-form video is any video you put out that is less than 5 minutes. “Anything over 5 minutes,” he says, “nobody will take the time to watch unless it is very targeted and has content that somebody wants to learn.”

Bill compares SFV to Cliffs Notes and Reader’s Digest which are meant to get to the point quickly. With attention spans shorter than ever, it’s wise to be very economical with other people’s time [your viewers and potential clients]. “Time is life,” Bill says, “You can replace money, but you can’t replace life.”

According to the HubSpot Blog’s 2022 Marketing Industry Trends Survey, 30% of social media marketers plan to invest more in short-form video than in any other social media marketing strategy in 2022; 33% plan to leverage short-form video for the first time in 2022. Here’s one more interesting statistic, this one from SurveyMonkey68% of marketers say video has a better return on investment than Google Ads.

Eager or anxious about getting started with SFV? Either way, Bill Sargent says the most important thing is to get in the game. Otherwise, there’s no chance of winning.

Here are some tips to help you create your own SFV. Don’t overproduce; your video will lose its authenticity. Instead, keep it simple and stick to creating content for just your particular audience. Keep it short; some of the best SFV is just 30-60 seconds long. Finally, don’t be pushy and make it an ad to sell product. Instead, use the video to create relationships, educate, and develop your brand awareness.
