This general contact information will get you started with local press and media coverage. Being proactive and establishing relationships with key reporters and editors is always a smart idea. Start small and introduce yourself and your business, then work up to sending them a pitch for a unique story which only you can provide.
The goal is to be seen as an expert in your area so that media channels know to contact you when the need arises.
Here’s an important tip when reaching out to the press:
Be sure to personalize your email communications. That means sending to specific people. It also means ensuring the communication is sent individually. Email blasts are not recommended when sending out pitch letters and press releases. If you want special attention from the press, then it pays to make them feel special in return.
