We decided on Big Spender and Feather Stone. I was familiar with the first—it’s in some of my rooms now—but the second will be a bright, new addition, allowing my artwork and dark furniture to really pop. Taking into consideration the many different angles in the condo, its high cathedral ceiling, and the abundance of natural light, I’m confident the paint combination will bring it all together beautifully. That level of confidence, however, isn’t something I could have achieved on my own. For that, I depend upon Color Consultant Tammy Stotler.

Tammy and I began working together in 2019, when I met her at Hallman Lindsay Paints in Waukesha. Her expertise and friendly, down-to-earth demeanor were just what I needed as my husband and I planned moving to our new Brookfield residence. Room by room, Tammy advised me on just the right colors, matching my preferences to what would work well in each space.

Last summer, Tammy returned to help us select the perfect shade for our kitchen remodel. We wanted something dark and moody—a bold, distinctive choice. We may not have gone as deep as we did had Tammy not reaffirmed our instincts: a rich chocolate espresso for both the walls and ceiling. The result is spectacular.

A few days ago, I invited her back; this time to help me achieve a more seamless flow between the living room and new kitchen. Walking around, holding up paint samples in the afternoon glow, imagining the walls and ceiling awash in fresh tones, I was grateful to have Tammy by my side. It just wouldn’t be possible for me to sort through the countless choices on my own; I find that process intimidating and overwhelming. While I’m the expert in how I want to feel in my living space, Tammy has the professional and creative ability to translate that into the right color story.
